The first film, Alien, was directed by Ridley Scott and stared Sigourney Weaver, John Hurt, Tom Skerritt, Ian Holm, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton and Yaphet Kotto.
The story begins with the crew of the comercial refining ship Nostromo were woken from
hypersleep to investigate a transmission from a desolate planet. When Captain Dallas
(Tom Skerrit), Kane (John Hurt) and Lambert (Veronica Cartwright) investigate the alien ship,
Kane finds a room filled with thousands of eggs. While looking at the eggs, one opens and a face
hugger attatches itself onto his face.
On returning to the Nostromo, Ash (Harry Dean Stanton)
the chief science officer, breaks quarantine and allows them to take Kane to the medical bay.
After an unsuccessful attempt at removing the face hugger, it comes off itself and dies.
Kane regains conciousness and the crew decide to have 1 final meal before returning to the sleep
chambers to continue their voyage home. However, during the meal Kane starts convulsing and an
Alien bursts from is chest and runs out of the room. When they look for the alien, they find out
that it has grown to the size of a large man when Brett is killed and taken into
the
air ducts.
It is agreed that the alien is using the airducts to move around and a new plan to trap the alien in the main airlock by coaxing it towards the airlock through the airducts with a flamethrower. Dallas does the manly thing and goes into the airducts. After a while, he finds the alien but comes out the worst for the meeting. His flamethrower is recovered, but there is no other trace that he had been in there. With no better ideas, the remainder of the crew, now under the command of Third Officer Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) decide to continue with the plan to force the alien into the airlock.
While the flamethrower is refueled, Ripley visits the ships computer and discovers that Ash has been protecting the alien because he has orders to capture a live secimen of the alien for bioweapons reasearch, all other priorities recended, crew expendable. Ash then tries to kill Ripley but Parker (Yaphet Kotto) and Lambert hear the attack over the ships intercom and come to the rescue and literally knock ash's head off only to discover that he is an android. After questioning Ash to the possibly ways of killing the alien, Ripley, Parker and Lambert decide to set self destruct and abandon ship.
Parker and lambert head off to collect all the necessary extra provisions they will need for
the voyage, and Ripley preps the Lifeboat and catches the ships cat. Unfortunately for Lambert
and Parker, the alien finds them while they are loading the lifeboat and kills them. Ripley
hears the attack over the intercom and sets self destruct. When she reaches
the lifeboat, she is unable to board because the alein is between her and the ship. She decides
to stop the countdown but is just too late and detonation becomes inevertable. She returns to
the lifeboat to discover the alien has disappeared, so she blasts off and, believing she is
safe, begins to prepare for hypersleep. On discovering the alien onboard the ship, she dons a
space suit, and opens the airlock blowing the alien into space.
